How many ways are there to say I love you?

We live in a world of mass communication, You could use twitter, but should you send it as a Direct Message or shout it to the world!  You could send it on Facebook, do you send it as a letter, phone up, Send a video message or go in person???

All of that depends a lot on you and what your preferred way of communication is.  The problem actually is that none of that depends on you –not at least if you want to make the best impact.  What matters is the way in which they want to feel that they are loved, what is their love language?

And what does all this have to do with business??  So often as business people we focus on what is easiest for us.  Our most comfortable way of communicating…  Do you prefer the phone, Email, Text, Social Media… I think your getting the point.

Now stop for a moment and think about your client, how can they communicate with you – have you got all the boxes ticked, if they sent you a tweet would you respond in a timely fashion.  If they would rather watch a video than read a case study, do you give them that option???

If you want to talk about the different ways you are talking to your clients and want to make sure you have all the boxes ticked, do give me a call on 07967 681989, drop me a line at jay@ichthusvideo.co.uk, say hello on Skype – “ichthusvideo” or tweet me @ichthusvideo to name just a few ways to say hello.

How fast do you have to run???

It’s olympic year so I am guessing there will be a load of olympic type blogs, threads, tweets, you name it.

For me today has been an interesting day, made all the more so by one of the only Accountants I would ever recommend, and he’s not mine.  He got me thinking – so much so that it might actually be the source of a number of blog posts and even some marketing thoughts but without giving the whole game away I thought I would pose a question, in the vain attempt of getting some responses from you all.

Picture the scene if you will.  You are on foot, a long way from your safari buggy with your friend.  All of a sudden you see a lion….  up close and personal.  How fast do you need to run???

I hope that gets you thinking!  It did me…

What is Ichthus Video all about? – a new film

I am thrilled to be able to share this film today.

For so long I have wanted to be able to communicate what Ichthus Video is all about and I think this is about the closest we have managed to get to explaining that so far.  I hope you enjoy the film and look forward to getting your thoughts.

How does your audience want to be spoken to.

So often we concentrate on what works for us.  How often do we take the time to understand how our customers want us to communcate with them?

It was only this week that I was with a good friend of mine who uses all the various means of communication, so he’s on Facebook, twitter, linked in, has a mobile phone and several email addresses.  It was only because I was with him that I had the chance to find out what the “best” way of communicating with him was.

As it turned out, in his case it was to a particular email address that worked better than any other.  Armed with that knowledge I will now change the way I am communicating with him.

Clearly eveyone is different and everyone gets information in different ways.  It is therefore important that we ensure our potential clients can access us in a number of ways and when they do become clients we note the preferred method of communication.

It does mean we need to be keeping a regular eye on the different ways in which people can be in touch with us, it also might be worth telling people the best way to get hold of you.  In case your interested, for me?  Twitter – @ichthusvideo and my mobile phone 07967 681989 are the best ways to contact me, I still struggle with email, but do try and keep on top of it.

#askjay – Camera Height for Vlogs

Welcome to the first #askjay blog – all about camera heights for when creating vlogs  – Thank you Dinah (@dinahliversidge) for the question.

So often when we create video blogs we use our laptop inbuilt cameras, which makes a lot of sence, it saves a lot of time with editing and copying off hand held cameras etc, the downside, is that this usually means that they are much lower down than eye line.

Whether we realise it or not when we see someone looking down on us it does not make us feel good – we tolerate a lot, and so many of your viewers may tolerate your vlog’s but it is my guess that you want better than that.  In which case I would suggest that you raise the level of the camera so that it is at least level with your eyes or slightly higher.

I hope that is useful, do feel free to contact me on twitter with any other questions you might have.  Until next time, have a great week!

As #tags are all the rage, would you mind helping me by using one?

One of the things I enjoy so much is being able to provide help and advise on areas that I know about, and also finding the answers that people are looking for from within my network.  With this in mind I thought I would launch a #tag and give people the chance to #AskJay questions during the week which I would then review weekly and offer the answers to some of them in a blog post.

So let me encourage you to get your thinking caps on and fire away with questions you might have.  Clearly questions on Video would be an area I could happily cover but if there are things which come out of my other blog posts or tweets etc which get you thinking please feel free to use the hash tag!

Have a great week

Spring really is in the air – for many a time to brighten things up.

Whether its the daffodils, the wildlife or the warm sunshine there is something about this time of year that’s ever so exciting – or is that just me?  Please comment to confirm whether that’s the case or not ;)

For many this time of year is a good opportunity to go through wardrobes and clear out under used clothing, to go through the inbox and remove the paper that you have not needed and looked at for some time.

What about your online presence, are you using this time to think about how you are communicating your message, whether it is coming across in the way you want it to, if people are able to “get it” a phrase I am coming across more and more just now and it certainly resonates with me.

If you would like some help with enabling people to understand you and your business, please do get in touch call me directly if you like on 07967 681989, I would love to hear from you and am sure we can craft something which will enable it to really work for you.

How can you be natural in the most unatural place in the world

Who likes to sit in front of a camera?

Certainly not me!

My preferred place is behind the lens – from where I love to help clients to feel at ease & in their element as they talk.

These days it’s increasingly important to be able to communicate what we do as businesses on camera. And out there you’ll see some great examples of how to do it well… and not so well!

So what IS it that makes the biggest difference between one video and the next?

Recently, I was pondering this with a wonderful colleague, Jonathan Hughes. We share a passion for helping people to communicate their stories…. and we’ve realised how our different creative skillsets can dovetail together.

Right now, we are working on some exciting offerings and you’ll hear more about those in the next day or two. Last week, we spent the day together refining a powerful idea for shared clients… and also creating some pieces of film which we will be editing together tomorrow.  I can’t tell you how excited I am to see what we end up with.

So – coming back to the topic of the blog – It’s important to recognise that some things in life just don’t come naturally… and when we see that, it’s then about finding the right people to help us.

I would love to have a chat with you, if getting in front of a camera is something you long to do, but don’t think you can. Call me on 07967 681989.

We are doing something Pontius Pilate would have loved to have done!

We are filming the crucifixion!

Can you imagine how much Mr Pilate would have loved to make a spectacle of the event!

Well ok, we are filming the final scene of the Kendal Passion, a local passion play on Good Friday and supplying the feed through to screens in another area.  A member of the team will be there on the day capturing and getting the action through to some screens in an adjacent building.

What we love about our work is the variety and helping different people use video as they best need it.  Got something you would like to see how video could help with it?  Just give me a call!  07967 681989 will get you right through to me personally or call the studio on 0800 335 7388
